The Festival of Britain was a national exhibition, the centrepiece of which was the South Bank Exhibition in London, which ran from 3rd May 1951 until 30th September 1951. The Dome of Discovery contained a exhibitions on the theme of discovery, and took visitors on a journey from land and sea to outer space. Along with many of the festivals other structures, the Dome of Discovery was demolished following the end of the festival
