The institution, popularly known as Wandsworth Prison, was designed to house both male and female convicts, as well as paupers who were required to work in the attached workhouse. The plan reveals the prison's extensive complex, which included various buildings for different purposes. The central structure housed the chapel, infirmary, and offices, while the prison wings were arranged in a radial pattern around a central courtyard. Each wing consisted of cells arranged in tiers, with corridors running along the outer walls.
