EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable poster created by the London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) between 1923 and 1947. The purpose of this stunning artwork was to entice travelers to explore the enchanting city of Stirling in Scotland through rail travel. The poster transports us back in time as it depicts a grand procession of the Scottish garrison outside the majestic Stirling Castle. Our eyes are immediately drawn to the imposing Great Hall on the right, where Parliament and state ceremonies were once held. Behind the barred windows lie hidden treasures - the Queens Bedchamber and the Kings Presence Chamber. Christopher Clark, an esteemed military and historical painter and illustrator, poured his artistic talent into creating this masterpiece. His attention to detail is evident in every brushstroke, capturing not only architectural precision but also infusing life into each soldier donning traditional kilts and carrying their bagpipes with pride. It is worth noting that many of Clark's designs for LMS and London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) posters were later re-issued by British Railways, further solidifying their timeless appeal. This print from National Railway Museum allows us to appreciate both history and artistry simultaneously while igniting our wanderlust for exploring Scotland's rich heritage at Stirling Castle.
