EDITORS COMMENTS
The print captures the solemn yet beautiful scene of Primrose Day in Parliament Square, London, on the 19th of April 1886. This annual event commemorates the death of British statesman and beloved Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield, who passed away on this day in 1881. In honor of Disraeli's memory, statues are adorned with wreaths of his favorite flower, the primrose. The Primrose League was established within the Conservative party to pay tribute to his legacy and enduring popularity. Queen Victoria herself would often send him bunches of primroses from Windsor and Osborne House as a token of her admiration. As we gaze upon this historic image, we are transported back in time to witness a poignant moment in British political history. The atmosphere is filled with reverence and nostalgia for a leader who left an indelible mark on his country. This print serves as a reminder not only of Disraeli's significant contributions to Britain but also of the enduring power of remembrance and tradition. It is a snapshot frozen in time that allows us to reflect on the past while honoring those who have shaped our present.
