This print captures an Altai Shaman with a tambourine in front of a traditional dwelling (Chaadyr) in the Altay Mountains region of southern Siberia, dating back to 1911-1913. The creator, Sergei Ivanovich Borisov, embarked on an expedition in 1907 that lasted until 1911, during which he captured around 1,500 photographs showcasing the natural beauty and indigenous peoples of the Altay Mountains.
Borisov's dedication to documenting the culture and traditions of the Altai and Kazakh peoples is evident in this striking image.
