"Luggage and Bags: A Journey Through Time" Step back in time and embark on a captivating journey through history with the evolution of luggage and bags. From the early days of locomotive steam engines to bustling train stations, witness how these essential travel companions have transformed over the years. In the 1830s, an engraving on paper transports us to the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, where a view of a train of carriages drawn by a locomotive steam engine captivates our imagination. The hustle and bustle at Kings Cross Station on Christmas Eve in the late 19th century come alive through a pen and wash drawing on paper, filling us with nostalgia for times gone by. Moving forward, we catch glimpses of diverse cultures as immigrants arrive at Ellis Island in New York City between 1895-1910. Their belongings neatly packed into suitcases symbolize hope for new beginnings in an unknown land. Meanwhile, a family of Tartars depicted in ink, watercolor, and gold transport us to their world circa 1885 – their bags holding secrets from distant lands. The Departure of the Prodigal Son painted on canvas around 1650 reminds us that even biblical stories are intertwined with journeys. Baggage becomes symbolic here as it represents both physical possessions left behind and emotional baggage carried within. As we sail across oceans aboard ships like "Guadeloupe, " captured in print during its embarkation at Quai des Anglais in Marseilles circa May 13th, 1882 or explore Sindjil camp through another print by M. Uzes dated June 10th, 1882; luggage takes center stage once again - sturdy trunks filled with dreams awaiting realization. But not all journeys are grand adventures; some reflect societal realities. The Beggar Fool's brush strokes delicately depict his humble bag containing meager possessions while silently telling tales untold.
