The Red Grouper (Epinephelus morio) is a species of fish found in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico, and is a large fish, reaching up to three feet in length and weighing up to 30 pounds. Its body is reddish-brown with white spots on its sides and fins and has a large mouth with sharp teeth for crushing prey such as crabs, shrimp, and other small fishes. The Red Grouper lives near coral reefs or rocky bottoms at depths of up to 500 feet. It feeds mainly on crustaceans but will also eat smaller fishes if necessary. This species is considered an important commercial fishery species due to its high demand for food consumption and recreational fishing purposes. Conservation efforts are being made to protect this species from overfishing so that it can remain abundant in the future.
