Wanted: Notorious Outlaw Tom Nixon, responsible for the daring train robbery on the Rocky Mountain Express in 1907 near Mudock. Bandits stole valuables from passengers, sparking a manhunt that lasted for months. Pinkerton's National Detective Agency offered a reward for information leading to Nixon's capture, as seen in this lithograph from 1901. The Adams Express Company, in this advertisement from the 1860s, promised secure delivery of goods, but even they were not immune to the exploits of the James Gang, who infamously robbed a train in 1879. The true identity of Sam Bass, another notorious train robber, remains disputed, as seen in this photograph from around 1877-1878. The thrill of the railroad brought wealth and progress, but also danger and intrigue.
